“Everything about STARS is perfect” ★★★★★
A bold, beautiful mix of humour and heart, STARS is a moving story of one woman’s journey through memory, grief, and pleasure – set against the backdrop of outer space.
At the heart of it all is Mrs – an older Black woman who decides, finally, to go looking for her orgasm. Her journey begins on Earth, through three powerful connections:
- Maryam, a young neighbour who shares a painful truth
- Maxi, a bold ex-colleague who calls her out and lifts her up
- Shahana, a gentle stranger at the launderette, with lavender and a knowing smile
With warmth and courage, Mrs takes off on a journey across the stars – part sci-fi fantasy, part personal healing. The show blends theatre, music, animation and storytelling, all performed by one woman and a live DJ. Expect laughter, tenderness, and moments that stay with you.
STARS draws from African mythology and celebrates Black, queer, feminist, and intersex lives – but at its heart, it’s a story about owning your body, your pleasure, and your voice. At any age.
A ‘concept album on stage’, the experimental and expansive STARS is written by internationally acclaimed theatremaker, artist and Alfred Fagon award-winner, Mojisola Adebayo (Family Tree (Actors Touring Company), Moj of the Antarctic: An African Odyssey (Lyric Hammersmith), Muhammad Ali and Me (Ovalhouse), Oranges and Stones (Ashtar Theatre, Ramallah), Desert Boy (Albany Theatre), I Stand Corrected (Artscape, South Africa), The Interrogation of Sandra Bland (Bush Theatre), Wind / Rush Generation(s) (National Theatre) and Nothello (Coventry Belgrade)).

Please note: Although a joyful and celebratory show about an old woman’s search for her lost orgasm, STARS does also explore sensitive topics that may be triggering for some audience members. These topics include sexual violence, FGM, conversion therapy and intersex experience. The play also includes some strong language.
