A New Voice, A New Commission: Tamasha x Anjeli Chapman
Tamasha is absolutely thrilled to announce our participation in the inaugural Jerwood Royal Court Commissioning Scheme – a landmark initiative supporting bold new voices and original playwriting across the UK.
We are especially proud to be partnering with playwright Anjeli Chapman as one of this year’s six recipients. Selected from an exceptionally competitive pool of 136 applications, this recognition is a testament to the strength, originality and urgency of Anjeli’s work, as well as to the collaborative vision behind this exciting new commission.
Anjeli Chapman was born in New York City and moved to England in 2020 to study English at the University of Cambridge. Since then, she has rapidly established herself as a compelling new voice in contemporary theatre. Her debut play Flinch was developed through the Royal Court’s prestigious playwriting group, and in 2025 it earned her the Edward F. Albee Fellowship. Earlier this year, Flinch was presented as a staged reading in the main space at Soho Theatre, marking another significant milestone in her growing career. She has also worked as a writing assistant to Lucy Prebble and Ed Solomon, further honing her craft within the industry.
This commission represents an exciting next chapter – not only for Anjeli, but for Tamasha as we continue our commitment to developing innovative and risk-taking work. The Jerwood Royal Court Commissioning Scheme has been designed to support precisely this kind of creative ambition, underwriting new plays that push boundaries and reflect the richness of contemporary storytelling.
We are honoured to be among a cohort of outstanding artists and organisations across the country and we look forward to bringing this new collaboration to life.
Stay tuned for more updates as this project develops – we can’t wait to share what comes next.
